Referenta

Glossary

Plain-language definitions for every term you'll see in the Referenta dashboard.

Every product has its own vocabulary. This page explains what each term in Referenta actually means — in everyday language, not jargon.

Areas Of The Dashboard

Assistant The AI conversation workspace. Where you draft, ask questions, and work through tasks by chatting with the AI. See Assistant.

Tools Focused workspaces built for one specific kind of job — like cleaning up a transcript or comparing two laws. Use a Tool when the task has a clear shape. See Tools.

Analysis & Research The umbrella name for the three "finding" workspaces: Knowledgebase, Research, and Press Monitor. See Analysis & Research.

Outreach The "sending" half of the dashboard — Contactbase and Distribution Lists. Where you manage who you communicate with. See Outreach.

Organization The admin area for managing your team account and settings. See Organization.

Inside Each Area

Knowledgebase A searchable library of documents (parliamentary records, policy papers, and similar). Where you go to find existing source material.

Research A workspace for an ongoing investigation. Unlike Knowledgebase (one-off searches), Research keeps your sources and notes together over multiple sessions.

Press Monitor A live feed of media coverage with filters and a ticker. Where you watch what's being said in real time.

Contactbase The team's shared contact database — journalists, stakeholders, partners.

Distribution List A saved group of contacts so you don't have to rebuild the same audience every time you send to it.

Bookmark A saved document in Knowledgebase. Use bookmarks as a shortlist while you work on a piece.

How The Assistant Works

Conversation One continuous thread in the Assistant. Each piece of work usually has its own conversation. The Assistant remembers everything you've said within a conversation.

Context Everything the Assistant currently knows about what you're working on — your messages, its earlier replies, files you've shared, and your stated goal.

Workspace A persistent area for ongoing work. The term comes up in Research (a topic workspace) and elsewhere — it just means "a place that remembers what you're doing."

Admin Terms

Role What level of access a teammate has. Set when you invite a user; controls how much they can do in the dashboard.

Seat / User Limit The maximum number of teammates your account can have. If you hit the limit, you'll need to remove someone or upgrade before you can add more.

Organization Your team account in Referenta. Everything you do happens inside one organization, and everyone on your team is a member of the same one.

A Note On Names

A few names — Knowledgebase, Contactbase, Press Monitor — are specific to Referenta. If you're new, the easiest way to remember them is by what they're for:

  • Knowledgebase → finding documents.
  • Contactbase → finding people.
  • Press Monitor → watching coverage.

That covers most of the vocabulary you'll need.
